ASICS is one of the most popular makers of tennis shoes in the UK. Their footwear is trusted by professionals and serious enthusiasts alike for its advanced support, smart engineering and stylish contemporary design. Asics began as Onitsuka Co., Ltd on September 1, 1949. Founder Kihachiro Onitsuka began manufacturing basketball shoes in his home town of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The name ASICS is an acronym of the Latin phrase ‘anima sana in corpore sano’ which translates to ‘a sound mind in a sound body’ and conveys the company’s ethos and mission. The iconic ASICS logo was first introduced in 1977, and was the basis for the symbol we know today. This design was created by Herb Lubalin to represent the swirling path of a running track in the Olympics, or a spinning disc thrown into the distance.
Asics’ GEL™ technology was created in 1986, but became fashionable during the 1990s. This technology was revolutionary, and it still is today. GEL™ technology remains one of the go-to choices for runners across the world. This technology supported and cushioned runners’ feet during its early popularity. Today, you can find this technology in the GEL-LYTE™ III, the GEL-KAYANO™, the GT-2000™ and the GEL-NIMBUS™ running shoes.
ASICS partnered with Serbian tennis professional, Novak Djokovic to launch an exclusive new tennis shoe, the Court FF NOVAK.
